I’ve always loved history as a kid…so much so that I would eventually go on to become a history teacher for high school students. I think I love it so much because it reveals patterns in our human experience and how we tend to repeat the same or similar behaviors of those who came before us. As I think about the many influential key figures in black America who sought to leave behind the stressors and familiarity of the United States, and seek refuge in new foreign homes, I can’t help but think about people like W.E.B DuBois, Richard Wright, James Baldwin, and Josephine Baker who had the courage to packed up everything and get out of dodge.
Today, we are witnessing the hands of time reverting back…
