So tonight I tried these new quick skillet meals that Kroger is offering. For the record, I receive coupons from BzzAgent to try the meal for free. I have seen them and I had wanted to try them so when BzzAgent offered this campaign, I was excited. I have had several of the major name brand all in one skillet meals before over the years and the experience is usually hit or miss. Sometimes the meal is delicious but the quantity is lacking. Sometimes the meal is not so delicious or the quality of the product is not so good or not enough. Kroger is my main grocery store. There are 4 located within 5 miles of me so I am very familiar with and comfortable with using their private label products. So I have very little apprehension about trying their skillet meals. My husband is vegetarian, so we tried the only meat-free version that was available at my regular store on today.
We selected the Sorrento style Gnocchi, and the House Salad with Bacon and the traditional garlic bread.
The product was really easy to find in the store. Prominently displayed next to the national brands, right at eye level in the freezer cases. The product was super easy to prepare. Actually the whole meal was easy to prepare. For the skillet meal, all you needed was the one skillet. Now I gotta tell ya, I love that! With a toddler and husband that doesn’t cook, anything that is quick to prepare and quick to clean up, is a big win for me!
My Husband and I both liked the flavor of the sauce and cheese. The pasta was chewy though and once the dish began to cool, the gnocchi got a little chewy. Most people should be able to eat it before it gets cold though. I was trying to feed a 2 year old as well, so that’s what delayed me. She didn’t like the pasta, by the way, but she did like the bread and salad. The meal was filling and satisfying though. I definitely look forward to trying the other varieties. I’m not sure if they’re are other vegetarian/vegan options but I would try those too. I think in a pinch, I would eat/serve it again. Though the serving size is smallish, there were no leftovers or even enough for a proper seconds. I would probably prepare a bag per every two people.
And clean up was a cinch. Throw the bags in the trash and the dishes in the dishwasher! Enjoy the rest of the evening! This meal truly only took about ten minutes to cook and additional few minutes to fix the plates and serve. My family, like yours is fast paced, busy and on the go, so a meal like this is perfect on days when cooking is completely inconvenient but eating out is not a good option.
I would and will recommend Kroger’s Skillet meals. I have five sets of coupons that I’ll be giving to friends and family for them to try it out. I plan to purchase another combination of flavors to review. So stay tuned!
